Drouot

Drouot is not a single auction house in the Christie's/Sotheby's sense. It is an auction market: dozens of independent commissaires-priseurs and maisons operating through Hotel Drouot at 9 rue Drouot in Paris, with Drouot providing rooms, logistics, live bidding, and the consolidated calendar while each maison catalogues and runs its own sales.

That structure is why the inventory feels different. On the same day you can see Old Masters, tribal art, militaria, estate jewellery, mid-century French furniture, books, manuscripts, design, and second-tier Modern pictures moving through different rooms or online sessions. The names under the umbrella change by sale: Ader, Beaussant Lefevre, Millon, Piasa, Tajan, Aguttes, Cornette de Saint Cyr, and many smaller specialists all appear in the Drouot ecosystem.

Practical notes: buyer's premium is set by the operating maison, not by one central Drouot tariff, so fees can range from the mid-teens into the high twenties before VAT on the fee. Catalogues usually appear one to three weeks before sale and viewings are tied to the relevant room or auctioneer.
